EVO X build, has begun!!!!

I figured I would start this thread with detailed pictures of the process, I will be starting the overhaul this next week and the weeks to come. What the car has now,

Factory Rockford system, front RF components, rear RF coaxials, 10 sealed RF sub in trunk, and 650 5 channel RF amp under seat, RF 6 disk cd changer in the dash w/Siruis.<<<<<All from the SSS factory package.

Well I have been rocking that for a year, and the time has come to overhaul it all. First off, start with the headunit.

Kenwood DNX9140 double din Garmin Navi with Kenwood Siruis box. OEM harness converter box to work with the factory RF system. Well, I am very impressed with this HU, I like it alot, but the RF system still sucks and has got to go.

Parts List:

JL Audio XR 6.5 components for Front doors
JL Audio XR 6.5 coaxials for rear doors
Powered by JL 300/4 amp
Fiberglass sealed sub box in trunk with JL 12 W6
Powered by JL 500/1
JL Audio 4 and 2 channel RCA's and all JL audio speaker and power wire.

108 square ft of dynamat extreme in whole interior.(ordered)

Just have to wait for the above ordered stuff to get here and start the whole process. I am very excited about the build!!!

It is an aftermarket dash kit.

This is a total 15 sheets of dynamat, two bulk kits is 18 sheets, I have enough left to finish the trunk lid that is about it. I ordered another 9 sheets making the grand total now 108 sq ft of dynamat!!! After I finish the trunk lid, I will have just the doors and floor left to do, the easy parts!!!

Got one layer of 1/4 thick woven mat done, here is what it looks like, just one more layer and the back half will be done!!!! It is already strong enough for me to stand on the edge of box!!!

Update: Sub box is Primed!!!
Got some more work done on the sub box, it is coming together rather nicely.

Finished the back half over 1/2 thick solid fiberglass and started on the front



Resin the front



Add some mating and more fiberglass to the back side of the front



Starting to take shape and EVERGLASS!!!!

Going to test fit tomorrow and make sure everything is perfect and then prep for PAINT!!!!!

Sub box is finished!!!!
Did a fit check, everything looks good after a little bit of grinding on the sides.





Since it fits in the car good, did the base coat and about 20 coats of clear, it is going to look good in the car. I am really digging the finish.



Here is a close up of the paint, pretty shiney and that is dry to btw....

My wifes new 2010 chevy Malibu, we got it last week.

i have thoght about painting mine, how much would you charge to just paint it?

Depends on what finish you want and if you want it clear coated. If the box is prep-ed properly for primer then it can be between 50 and 250 depending on what type of paint you want. Just to give you an idea, that paint on my box is du pont chromobase which is around $100 a quart and the clear coat was another $70. So I have $170 in mine with just base and top coat. Primer is another 80 a gallon, you can see where this is going, but the finish and look are worth it IMO.

thats a lot money for something that wouldnt be used much but still looks great i would take it everywhere just to show it off

It is only money, and when it is what you want, I really wouldn't care if it cost twice that much. And I will be using that box everyday I drive this, I will be pounding that sub!!!! My plan is to show the car because it is unique and nice IMO. It can never be an SPL car, and I wouldn't want it to be. It is built for speed and handling. And last point, You can't take money with ya when you die, might as well enjoy stuff while you are living!!!!
