| There once was a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2 with alot of miles on it... It eventually fell into the hands of a very eccentric man, who had a passion for bone-jarring bass. He put several systems in the car, starting with a single 10 and a kicker KX600.1, and continue to swap the subwoofers and boxes out for other subwoofers and boxes. Then one day, he got a wild hair up his ass to decide to build a wall in the little Escort, and use an amplifier that easily made his lights dim. He continued to beat the system to death with clipped power from an underpowered amplifer for competitions or for short demos, and the battery and the alternator worked together tediously to try and keep up with the amperage demands of the amplifier. To no avail, the wheezing 90amp remanufactured alternator starts to give way after the "Big 3" upgrade... Now the car doesn't shine as brightly, and can barely run with the amplifier turned on because of the crippled alternator.
------------
So, short story, without the narrative. I did the "Big 3" tonight, and enjoyed the results (felt louder) for about 3 minutes, until I heard my engine starting to knock every time it started slamming. Sure enough the tach shows a drop from 900rpm to 400rpm, and I'm like, "Well I bet that means it probably ought to be turned down." (So I did) ... I check the car's voltage while running, and it only reads 13.8 while running and revved... So, I geuss that means I know what I need to buy next to tires that actually have tread on them. I got a quote for a 300amp alternator with an adjustable voltage switch for 390$ shipped... So I geuss here within a few weeks I'll post to show pics of it... Lol. | |

and Mike why the adjustable reg u plan on running 16 volt system? iraggi started to get a real bad rap a little while ago. looked like they stuffed used parts inside used housings and had the equipment putting out next to nothing at idle and not too much on 2k rev either. I had one in my car the first time i made it to an arspl comp. later on i had it dynoed. did like 0 to 40 at real idle. then i think topped off at around 106. and it was the amputator series. i think 200 amp. but now over on smd, hes made a nice come back, great cs, and his product is putting out great power | |

| Richard's starter in Little Rock off of Kanis Rd. He has a really good machine, where he can load it down to the point the alternator will stop spinning.....lol.
It will tell you the amps, and voltage, but you really need it load tested. O'Reily's can do a basic test on it to tell you if it works, O'Reily just does volt and amp test and rectifier test, Richard's can do all that and load test. | |
