| Yea ... the impedance of the individual coil will change "widely" based on alot of things... The key thing is that its still showing impedance.
Things that alter that reading would be 1) Placement of the coil inside the motor (Since it was resting this can be mostly thrown out, but consider the possibility if it was warped and placed abnormally inside the motor)
2) Ambient air temperature. The more heat outside of the coil, the more heat that gets transferred via conduction to the coil; thus the impedance increase.
3) Coil temperature (a product of power/thermal compression as well as ambient air temperature)... Like in reason #3, the more heat generated in the coil as a product of normal operation, the more resistance you'll have in the coils as a by product of thermal buildup. Also, you may have some clipping in the signal somewhere along the signal chain, even though it is not audible, the clipped signal doesn't turn into acoustic/mechanical energy, but rather, thermal.
4) The DMM's placement in relation to the subwoofer motor. Seems silly, but some DMM's will change their readings based on where you place them around the motor of the subwoofer. I had a DMM read anywhere from 8ohms to 0.6ohms on a single 2ohm coil based simply on where I placed the DMM. The magnetic flux from the motor alters the current inside the machine. Cool stuff, but annoying. | |

| if you got the money for a recone, i say demo till they blow. Then when you take them apart, we can finally figure you what size coil it is | |
