Usaci has a 30% rule. The amp must do within 30% of it's rated power to be legal.

Tony I hope u had fun and got to meet some new people. Did u get to hear John Roberts truck? It was the ford with the ultra equipment.

You got that right. It really does not matter, someone will always find something to complain about.

i hung out with a memphis rep for a little while, and talked with some of the music mart guys after they saw what i could do.

do you know what size subs were in it? was it from jt or jd audio, or tc audio?
I think the only car i saw with ultra subs was in a toyota car that was just hanging out looking pretty.

Im debating on something new for my car.
i was gonna do 2 18s on 7k, it would be adjustable for comp and daily,
but now im thinking of 8 12s that would be pretty much daily, that way i might do some street beat stuff.
i might end up doing both if i find the money

If done right they sound really good. The problem is with airspace. Not every ride can fit 12cu.ft. net for a pair lol

I was just tossin my two cents in; I wasn't challenging you (or your knowledge/credentials) ... My apologies if that's how it seemed.

I'm about to sound somewhat contradictory to my latter post, but I'm speaking from a much more personal viewpoint this time ...

None of the little "loopholes" (for lack of a better word this time) bother me personally at all. I actually was in the advantage of one when I competed in the MSA show in Conway last year. I'm going to do USACi events; I understand what can happen before doing them. Like you said, each organization has its own quirks, so at the end of the day, I happen to find that it makes it much more interesting. It forces me to think more critically when I design my builds, if nothing else, and I enjoy that.

Anyways ... back on topic Very Happy --------

I'm not quite sure what drove me to install the 18's in my escort, or my taurus for that matter ... I had one DC Lvl 4xl 12 in a 5.6cu ft 6th order that was plentily stupid loud off stock power still... I geuss I wanted more ... And was willing to sacrifice the cabin to do it.... If I can ever manage to push enough wattage to those SX's, I'll get new ones, but otherwise I'm "very" content with them. For the dollar, they're a real good mid-level sub.

Oh i knew right were you were coming from. There rating scale has been tested, both from those who like it and dislike it. They have stated reasons many times. Thats how they do it and are gong to continue to do it. If you didn't know why or wanted too is why i posted and the examples to maybe show in another way to open eyes of where other have problems with rules in another way with car size/configs. Like Taco said. It really doesn't matter what the rules are. Someone is going to complain or see where they can gain from a said rule. All orgs try to do the same which is try to balance the best way they can. Be it power, cone size ect. There are always those that will find the products that best suits the rules, format and vehicle. Someone is always going to have the short stick. Its knowing the rules and working them to your advantage thats sets the winners from the whinners.

As for your build. I cant wait to hear it. That much cone area and space should yield some nice results. I know its no easy task to build a wall either. Have you gotten the trim panels in yet?

Absolutely agreed.... The idea behind that is why I don't feel upset at all about not placing in SPL competitions, because none of my personal builds have ever been strictly for SPL. I have to compete with the "big spl boys" and the "fart boxes" ... but I don't care. I just like to see how it stacks up. I do it for fun, and meeting my personal expectations. Very Happy (I do get alot of crooked stares from folks when I say I'm entering my daily running setup for SPL ... lol)

-----

Side panels, not yet, its sealed in the back though....school and and a small install for the Beebe Martial Arts Hummer is occupying my time, and work again....

-------

I'm not at all surprised that TSN blew ... I mean you did have "alot" of power going to that sub. I say, it probably took it like a f-ing champ when it did though. So I give the sub and the install its dues ...because it was taking in quite a bit of power....

On a side note ... would you be interested in trying out a rear-loading horn design for that XXX? (I assume the sub mates well with that alignment for right now) ...

I'm pretty confident in my abilities to achieve good results with that type of alignment; I've built several already with great results. I had considered running an XXX in my escort in a horn, but went with the DC because it was cheaper. But I'd like to have someone else try an experiment of mine that I cant really afford to do.

I expected alot more from that TSNS. 4 inch coil rated 4krms. ive been beatin the crap out of my audiopulse axis for forever on the same power, and its got a 3 inch coil rated at 2.5krms.

and i was wanting to do 7k on it, but im not super sure it was actually but by t3, but a t3 frame reconed. but for the price i got it is what the basket is pretty much worth.

Im debating on reconing it, or saving the money for the 2 sundown 18s and putting both my axis's back in.

as for the xxx. Its for my girlfriends camaro. Its gonna be in a sealed box at first. I was looking at the specs and it look pretty suitable for a tline, but if you can give me some more info on horn design i might build one for fun. she has 2 sundown 10s on the way when they get released. so ill start playing with the xxx around then.

I'd love to hear some Axis subs really; to see if they measure up to the price they want you to pay for them. I done a few models with them but never any builds, but from what I saw; it was a tank ....

I'd love to just spit you out a horn design or begin to tell you where to start, but I'll need more info from you (alot more info) ... I'd love to just measure the vehicle up and down myself and go from there. (I may have free time on friday to meet you in NLR if this interests you) But, I need to know the vehicle more; this is more important than knowing the sub in my oppinion. (A proper mating of the horn mouth to the acoustic environment is critical)

Then, the T/S params of the sub ... I'd normally just use the ones off the RE site, but I need to be certain of which ones to use. 03 model, or 05 model, or something newer.

Finally, what do you want that bad boy to do? What would you like to see out of it... Razz ... I usually see (would guarantee it) an improvement of over 3 - 5db over the entire passband going from a sealed to a more fitted alignment, so that means we can easily shape how we want this thing to perform. Ultimately its up to you, but I need to know, because it'll determine the starting point for the project.

I should be getting it reconed, or sold. right now T3 doesnt have any recone because they have no TSNS sub in production right now. I sent emails to sundown and dc audio and im waiting on word back. i have a few others to talk to if those companies cant do it. One thing keeping me from reconing is that I planned to switch to 2 18s sometime anyway. so a my just save the money for now, but, im starting to miss the 18. I have been designing another box for my 2 15s though
